Seiko Shirasaka holds a Master’s Degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo.
Mr. Shirasaka began his career at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, where he was engaged in space development projects that include the Engineering Test Satellite VII (ETS-VII) and the International Space Station’s H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV). In particular, he contributed to the HTV project from the initial design phase through to the completion of the first mission. During this time, he was stationed at a European satellite manufacturer for one year and eight months where he participated in development projects for the European Space Agency (ESA). Mr. Shirasaka received numerous awards for his contributions toward the development of the HTV, “KOUNOTORI”. As the Program Manager for the Cabinet Office’s Impulsing Paradigm Change through Disruptive Technologies Program (ImPACT), he led the development of on-demand small Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites.
He has been teaching Systems Engineering at Keio University since 2004, and was appointed Associate Professor of the Graduate School of System Design and Management at Keio University in 2010 and was promoted to Professor in 2017. Since 2023, Mr. Shirasaka has served as the Dean of the Graduate School of System Design and Management, Keio University.
